The first step of typical glass tile installation is preparing the tiles to custom fit your installation surface. The ability to cut and shape glass tiles is essential, as new tiles must be cut to accommodate uneven edges, electrical outlets, and other unique qualities of installation surfaces. If you’re a first time installer we recommend practicing on extra tiles because even though cutting glass tiles is not terribly difficult, doing it well takes some experience. Small tiles are best cut with a wheeled mosaic tile nipper: a tool that accurately break tiles into smaller geometric shapes. We believe that cutting tiles is all about comfort and confidence. If you are using a wet saw, be sure you are using a saw with a brand new blade.

Wheeled Mosaic Tile Nippers (8”): $19.95 - Easily make cuts into small glass tiles. Place the glass tile in between the two wheels. Place your hands at the back of the nipper and gently squeeze. If your glass breaks easily, you are using the tool properly. If your glass shatters, your hand is probably too far down the throat of the tool, place it at the back of the tool and gently squeeze. |
