On While You Were Out, TLC’s hit ‘surprise’ design show, a person's partner, spouse or roommate is sent on an unexpected vacation while they, with the help of the show’s crew, renovate a favorite room or outdoor space. Random quizzes and prizes add a fun and spontaneous element to the show, and differentiate it from other renovation shows on TV.
Susan Jablon was asked to participate in select episodes of the hit show after having been in contact with TLC producers through her work on Trading Spaces and Moving Up. Though Susan saw little difference in designing for the show in comparison to working with a typical customer, the impact that these and other TLC appearances have had on her business is undeniable. One special 4th of July airing of While You Were Out that featured her tiles led so many viewers to her site that she was forced to quickly expand its technical capabilities.
Working with the While You Were Out crew, Susan Jablon designed a blend used for a designer kitchen remodel. The chic and colorful tiles were the perfect choice for the walls and backsplash. There is no doubt that the unknowing homeowner was pleasantly surprised to find Susan’s beautiful glass mosaic tiles covering the surfaces of her completely renovated kitchen.
